The Bromptons are more compact, but are much much slower to fold or unfold. I can fold mine in probably 5 or 10 seconds - unfolding is even faster. I can fit the tikit in a large airline-legal suitcase (brought it to Utah from Oregon on United).

I've never had a problem with the UTA bus, but I've only gone multimodal on weekends so far.

We can talk about a bike swap if you're interested in trying it for a few days.

Good to hear from you guys. A folding bike just seems to make so much sense. I recently switched jobs and multi-modal commuting makes a lot more sense than an 80-mile round trip each day.

I'm working a few things out, but until I can move, the folder is the best way to go.

Chris, how well does the tikit travel? Will it fit on one of the UTA express buses? I go out of town from time to time and I was considering a Brompton for its compactness. What are your thoughts?

I love my Bike Friday tikit! I've brought it on UTA buses and TRAX already, can't wait to hop on FrontRunner with it.

Folding bikes go quite well with mass transit. The L.A. mass transit authority (Metro) is working on an incentive program to get more commuters to use folding bikes in combination with mass transit. There thinking is that folding bikes allow more people to use mass transit...

Here's a link to a story I did on this topic:
